What does “betweenness” conjure for you?

Greetings, WordPress Wonderland.  As some of you know, I am working on a new dance piece inspired by the notion of “betweenness”….what lies between people, places, times, things…and more.

Including the landscapes of liminality, of transition, of the borderland.

I don’t want to be too directive, but rather want to keep the conversation as open as possible, since I am seeking input as part of my choreographic process. What does “betweenness” bring up for you?  Images, feelings, memories, sensations.  It needn’t be logical or concrete.  Spontaneity and obliqueness can be grand!

If you are willing to share what this notion evokes, please do.

I am reaching across the blogosphere in gratitude….

hi Chloe, spaciousness and emptiness come to mind for me. Stillness.

It means many things to me, like being on the way to the hairdressers for a complete restyle, but what comes through time and time again is the trepidation (fear even) and excitement of leaving something behind (a person, a situation, a place, a thing), without knowing what, if anything would take it’s place. Courage, eh 🙂

Heh. You took me right to the car drive on the way to the hairstylist–the uncertainty, rush of risk and excitement, string core of determination and absolutely courage! Love it. Thanks so much for contributing such vivid and diversely textured images, my poetic friend. xxx

  5. Betweeness, for me, conjures up uncertainty. As a freelancer and creative, I never know what’s coming next. So learning to dance within that uncertainty, or betweeness, is key. x x o o Hope the dance is coming along with ease.
